Lizard lovers...

Our passion for lizards started in 2003: During a Crete trip which actually had been focussed on wild orchids, we came across some Balkan Green Lizards. We actually had no idea which species we had seen, but this encounter raised our interest. Soon, we bought our first field guide and subsequently learned more about European Lacertids.

On numerous journeys to the Mediterranean we spent plenty of time searching for lizards. These curious animals rewarded our patience by compelling observations and fascinating eye-to-eye pictures (see also Photographing Lizards).

Meanwhile, we have seen all European Lacertids species and we are still fascinated of these animals. We are grateful that we had the opportunity to visit so many beautiful European landscapes and enjoy nature. And of course, we are always planning new adventures - in Europe and abroad.

As we wanted to share our experiences, we launched our first web pages called “bpo-natura” in 2008. Initially, these were rather general nature pages with reptiles, insects and flowers. Over time, we increasingly focussed on lizards.

End of 2018 we decided to build a platform which reflects that emphasis and EUROLIZARDS was born. Enjoy our pages and browse through our trip reports or learn more on the diversity of European lizard species.

Birgit and Peter, it is a rare joy to indulge in your lizard world. Second best only to actually being out there with the lizards.
